If one is going to talk the talk then they better be able to walk the walk
I am in quite a few dog training discussion groups on Facebook. Most of these groups i have been invited into rather than asking. I am always looking for new ideas on how to train dogs, yes even after 12 years.
I also use most of my bandwidth on watching you tube videos of some great trainers and some not so great trainers. In my quest to learn more i have noticed a stark reality. People that profess to train so called “positive only” don’t seem to have many videos showing what their dog can do. I am not talking about a video of a dog doing a trick in someones lounge room or doing a sit stay in their back yard. I am talking about real life videos of their trained dog in public with normal everyday distractions. Cars, people, kids running around, shopping trolleys and other dogs ,known or unknown to them. Yet these are the same people who will profess that their method of dog training is far more superior and scientifically proven than others. Yet i cant find the proof.
Countless excuses abound as to why they don’t put up videos. All these are true and legitimate taken from Facebook
So why are they so hesitant about showing proof of their dogs. After all what they say and believe in, you would think they would want the world to see how great their methods are.Hey I will be the first to give credit where credit is due but how can I went i cant see the proof. This faction will give their opinions on all aspects of dog training ,tell people how they should train their dog or refer them to another person who has a bigger name for themselves in the “positive Training” world yet I have yet to see a properly trained obedient dog.
Oh that’s right according to them ” a pet dog has no need for obedience” It doesn’t ? So a pet dog which is what the majority of people have doesn’t need to be obedient ? .It doesn’t need to do things you tell it ? And therefore be disobedient.
I wouldn’t mind so much if these so called ” Positive Trainers” really told it how it is but they don’t. Rather than show you how well trained their dog is they would rather explain to you how much fun they have training and how much their ” fur-baby” enjoys it. And the perceived complications of not training their way.
It almost seems by reading comments in these groups the empathy that fellow “positive trainers” have towards others when their dog has a so called problem. And the more “so called problems” they have with their dog the more empathy is shown and many many discussions on how to fix …no sorry minimise these problems. A 10 second video will be put up showing the outcome yet no before and after video . Or a 20 minute video of a consultation with a client to stop their dog jumping on people only to hear at the end of the video ” you may need to do this for a couple of weeks before results are seen. WEEKS
New flash !! It takes minutes to stop a dog jumping not weeks
